VIES checker FAQ
It means the selected national database confirmed the VAT number for intra-EU transactions at the time of the check. It does not by itself determine the correct VAT treatment for a specific invoice. For XI numbers, the EU treatment applies to Northern Ireland trade in goods, not services.
The number may not be enabled for intra-EU transactions, the selected country may be wrong, or the national register may need updating. Ask the business to confirm its details with its tax authority.
National privacy and data rules differ. Some countries do not return a name or address through VIES even when the VAT number is valid.
